About Neck Crossy

Neck Crossy is a pixel-art hopper: you guide a hen across an endless procession of roads, rail crossings and rivers, one square at a time, and your score is the number of rows you have crossed. Each hop takes 0.13 seconds on a 14-column board, and everything is grid-based rather than free-moving.

Grid movement is the point. In a continuously-moving game, tracking latency translates directly into positional error, but on a grid a flick that arrives 100 milliseconds late still puts you exactly one square forward — it just puts you there slightly later. That makes this one of the more forgiving games here despite looking frantic, and it is why the traffic patterns can be as tight as they are.

The three hazard types demand different things from you. Roads punish moving into a lane too early, rail crossings punish being on the track at all when a train comes, and rivers invert the rule entirely: the water kills you and the moving logs are safe, so on a river you have to keep moving with the current rather than waiting for a gap. Your best row count is saved locally on your device.

How to play

  • Head flick up, down, left or right — hop one square that way
  • Arrow keys or WASD to hop; Space hops forward
  • Score one point for each new row you reach
  • Vehicles and trains kill on contact; on rivers, the water kills and the logs are safe
  • Falling behind the screen edge also ends the run

Tips & tricks

  • Hop into gaps, not toward them. Each hop takes 0.13 seconds and commits you to a square, so a gap that is closing when you start moving will be closed when you arrive.
  • On rivers, keep moving. Logs carry you toward the edge of the screen, so standing still on one is a slow death — always be planning the next hop while you ride.
  • Use sideways hops to wait. Moving left or right within a safe row is free and keeps you lined up with the gap in the next lane rather than forcing a blind forward hop.
  • Rail crossings are all-or-nothing. Unlike roads there is no threading a train, so cross immediately after one passes rather than trying to judge the gap.
  • Do not let the screen edge catch you. The pressure to keep moving forward is what makes the river sections dangerous, so bank a few easy rows whenever the road is quiet.

Frequently asked questions

How is the score calculated?
One point per row crossed. Your best row count is stored in your browser's local storage.
Is Neck Crossy free?
Yes, free in the browser with no account or download.
Can I play without a camera?
Yes. Arrow keys or WASD hop, and Space hops forward.
Why do the logs not kill me?
On river rows the rule inverts: water is fatal and the drifting logs are the safe ground, so you have to ride them and keep moving.
Is my camera feed uploaded?
No, face tracking runs on your own device inside the browser.
